My new iPod arrived two days after my hard drive died. I was in the middle of finals and had neither the time nor energy to replace it. I was leaving for along trip and wanted music for the flights. In short, I added songs to my virgin iPod from my friend's iTunes (Mac). Two weeks later, I successfully added songs to my iPod from my brother's iTunes (Mac). I FINALLY have a functioning PC and cannot seem to get the songs to transfer from the iPod to my computer. tried with EphPod and couldn't even get it to recognize my iPod. What am i doing wrong? My only other option is to format my iPod with iTunes and lose all my music.
Help is greatly appreciated!

Your iPod is probably MAC formatted now. If you download the Windows 2.1
firmware updater from http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ and run it, it
should "convert" your iPod to a Windows (FAT32) formatted drive. You'll
loose all the music that's presently on your iPod, though. Good luck.

Wait! Before going that far, install the trial version of MacOpener or
MacDrive, and see if they recognize your iPod. This way you'll be able to
recover your music before converting it to FAT32.
